Like a detective, performance artist Gosie Vervloessem (°1973, Belgium) studies the relationship between humans and the plant kingdom. In her artistic research project at the Middelheim Museum, she applies ideas from her earlier work The Horror Garden (2018) to the landscape of the Middelheim Museum. What place can art have in relation to nature, and the other way round? What happens when nature is not just the background, but actually takes the leading role? What stories come up when you lie down in the grass without any expectations?
The result is The Pleasure Garden (2023), a digital artwork with augmented reality (AR) that visitors can experience on their mobile device or smartphone from autumn 2023.
Join one of two artist tours, where the artist activates The Pleasure Garden (2023) in a live performance. The tour starts with a studio visit, then the artist will guide you through the art park to reveal the hidden stories behind plants and trees, and afterwards there will be a follow-up discussion with the artist with coffee/tea and cake.
