Leopold II: 1873-2020

On 9 June 2020, a statue of King Leopold II (1835-1909) was removed from the public space of Ekeren, Antwerp, where it had stood since 1873. Its removal was a highly charged occurrence and led to numerous questions being addressed at the museum. The below text contains the answer to some of those questions.

Exhibition catalogue Congoville

In the first place, this publication provides more information about the exhibition concept that curator Sandrine Colard developed at the request of the Middelheim Museum. On the other hand, the book functions as an archive of the exhibition and provides a broader framework for this project.
